Tela Botanica programs

In addition to the coordination of the network and the development of its website, Tela Botanica is involved in several programs with other public or private bodies, in order to promote advances in botany and related sciences.

Botany

> Taxinomic reference lists

The aim of this project is to put at the disposal of naturalists complete taxonomic reference lists: phanerogams, bryophytes, lichens, algae and fungi, allowing them to exchange information on a common basis.
In partnership with the National Museum of Natural History, the National Forestry Office and the Federation of National Botanical Repositories..

> Online notebook (CEL)

An online field notebook to collect naturalist data.
This online tool is the digital counterpart of the botanist's field notebook. It allows the deposition and storing of observations on plants in a simple and efficient way (typing help, display of plant distribution, use of Google maps), to sort and search them.
With the support of the Foundation Nature et Découvertes.

> Interoperability of naturalist's databases

The interoperability of databases encourages collaboration between collectors and allows information to be at the disposal of users and public services in an efficient and workable way.
Using the Tapir protocol (TDWG), Tela Botanica focuses on developing a system linking two databases with the help of a dynamic link.
With the support of DIREN and the Région Languedoc-Roussillon.

> Integrated synusial phytosociology training course

Each year, a training session on integrated synusial phytosociology is proposed to professionals, students and amateurs... Run by Philippe Julve, lecturer in ecology, these two courses aim to familiarize participants with the practice of synusial phytosociology in analysis, comprehension and management of spaces (level 1) and to use and analyse field surveys (level 2).
From the 14th to the 18th of june 2010 - Introduction to integrated synusial phytosocioloy (level 1)
From the 18th to the 22nd of october 2010  - Integrated synusial phytosociology : using and analysing field surveys (level 2)

> Flora Bellissima, a tool to discover and identify flora

Flora Bellissima is a complete software on the flora of France allowing a reliable and intuitive identification thanks to 1400 described species, 9800 full screen photographs, 80000 lines of nomenclature based on the flora of France nomenclatural index (BDNFF).
The tools involved in the determination of plants by an expert system (multicriteria aproach) being still very few, Tela Botanica wished to support this initiative by publishing this software.

Citizen Sciences

> Observatoire des saisons

A citizen's observatory to assist research on climate change.
The season observatory invites each citizen to join in research on climate change. The goal of such a program is to set up a monitoring network of seasonal rhythms which allows the general public to be actively aware about climate change.
In partnership with CNRS/CEFE, CREA and Planète Sciences.

> Pl@ntNet

Born in 2008, this collaborative network aims to create a computerised platform that will ease the acquisition, analysis and collaborative use of plant data. Three principal types of people are concerned: scientists, managers and citizens.

> Vigie-flore

An observatory of common flowers.
Flora-Watch aims to monitor the distribution of flora over time in order to assess the impact of human activities and global changes on biodiversity.
This program is driven by the National Museum of Natural History in the framework of Nature-Watch programs.

Herbarium

> Herbarium census

The aim of this program, started in June 2008, is to identify and survey all herbaria, private and public, stored in Languedoc-Roussillon. The data of this survey will be available on the Tela-Botanica site.
In partnership with the University of Natural History of Aix-en-Provence and the CBN of Porquerolles.
Contact :  Andrine Faure / andrine@tela-botanica.org

> Online collections

In order to make data on herbaria accessible to everybody, Tela-Botanica is developing a tool to allow the management of metadata on herbarium collections. Soon to be available on the Tela Botanica website, it will give the opportunity to institutions and people possessing a herbarium to manage their own data online.

> Global Plant Initiative

The Global Plant Initiative (GPI) project is a collaboration of several tens of institutions in Africa, South America, Europe and United-States, aiming to create a permanent digital library of scientific resources regarding nomenclatural types of plants from all around the world.
In partnership with the University of Rabat and the support of the Mellon Foundation.
