Stage : écologie racinaire et mycorhizienne

ANGLAIS/ International Diversity Experiment Network with Trees (IDENT) propose un stage de 4 mois.

Contexte

We are a team of scientists in forest ecology seeking a responsible intern for research assistance on the impacts of climate change (drought) and tree biodiversity on ecosystem productivity, resistance and resilience to biotic and abiotic stress factors.

Our research is part of the International Diversity Experiment Network with Trees (IDENT). The innovative experimental design allows to separate between the effects of tree species richness and functional diversity on below ground traits. We offer to work in an international research team in one of Ontario’s most scenic regions at the mouth of Lake Superior and the Algoma Highlands as backcountry.

Missions

Lab assistant, cleaning and measurement of samples.

Profil recherché

We are looking for an intern/undergraduate student to help us with the washing, sorting and scanning of roots and mycorrhiza samples. The candidate should not be shy to get wet and dirty during the process of root washing, but at the same time have the sensitivity to avoid cross-contamination of the molecular subsamples of the (root free) soil. It is important that the laboratory assistant can read and comprehend the key scientific papers for the root sorting methodology and is able to apply this methodology consistently throughout the period of root sorting. The laboratory work can be meticulous, and the assistant needs to have good observational skills.
